If you’re planning a trip to Auburn, Alabama and don’t want to leave your pup behind—great news! This charming college town is packed with dog-friendly spots, scenic outdoor spaces, and southern hospitality that extends to your four-legged family members.
We recently visited and had an amazing stay, so we’re sharing our favorite places to stay, eat, and explore with your dog by your side—plus a few things we didn’t get to this time but are already on our list for the future!
🏡 Where to Stay: Jet’s Hangar – The Ultimate Dog-Friendly Airbnb
We stayed at Jet’s Hangar, a newly renovated Airbnb just steps away from downtown Auburn, and it truly felt like a home away from home. Not only is it in a walkable location near shops, restaurants, and Auburn University, but it’s also incredibly pet-friendly.
The house is clean, spacious, and cozy—the beds were seriously comfy after long days out exploring! There’s a huge fenced backyard where our pup could run around safely, and the hosts went above and beyond by providing poop bags and even a crate. If you’re traveling with a dog—or just want to stay close to everything—Jet’s Hangar is a perfect home base. Ready to book? Find them on AirBNB!

🐾 Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Auburn
🍋 Visit the Iconic Toomer’s Drugs (Humans Only!)
A stop at Toomer’s Drugs is a must when visiting Auburn! Their world-famous lemonade and ice cream are worth the hype. While dogs aren’t allowed inside and there’s no outdoor seating, it’s still a fun local landmark to grab a treat and snap a quick photo outside.

🍽️ Eat Like a Local (with Your Pup)
Auburn has several great spots with dog-friendly patios. Here are a few we loved—and a couple on our list for next time:
- Auburn Draft House – A laid-back atmosphere with a great beer selection and dog-friendly patio.
- Taco Mama – Tacos + margaritas + a dog on the patio = perfect.
- Moe’s Original BBQ – While there’s no outdoor seating here, it’s a must for BBQ lovers. Grab it to-go and have a picnic somewhere pup-friendly!
- Well Red – A cozy bookstore and wine bar downtown with a dog-friendly patio—ideal for bookworms and wine lovers.
- The Bean Coffee Shop – Dog-friendly outside seating and strong coffee for your morning strolls.
🎓 Explore Auburn University & Hey Day Market
The Auburn University campus is perfect for a scenic walk with your pup. Wide sidewalks, plenty of shade, and a calm atmosphere make it great for both humans and dogs. While you’re there, stop by Hey Day Market—dogs aren’t allowed inside, but there’s a welcoming outdoor area where you can enjoy food and drinks with your pup at your feet.

🥾 Hike at Chewacla State Park
This was a highlight of our trip! Chewacla State Park is just a short drive from downtown and full of trails, open green space, and even a stunning waterfall. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the terrain offers something for every level of hiker. It’s a great way to tire out your pup before heading back to relax.

🌽 Saturday Morning at Town Creek Park
One of our favorite surprises was the Saturday Market at Town Creek Park! This open-air market features local vendors, fresh produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, and more. Best of all—leashed dogs are welcome! It’s a great way to start your weekend, stroll through the park, and let your pup enjoy the fresh air (and attention from friendly locals).
Auburn might be best known for football and school spirit, but it’s also a fantastic destination for dog lovers. Between the pet-friendly Airbnb, delicious eats, scenic walks, and outdoor adventures, we felt right at home—and our dog did too.
🐾💛 We already can’t wait to come back, and when we do, Jet’s Hangar will definitely be our go-to stay again!
